Add A Fact: "13% of girls give birth before 18 in 2022"

[edit]

I found a fact that might belong in this article. See the quote below

Globally in 2022, an estimated 13 per cent of adolescent girls and young women give birth before age 18.

The fact comes from the following source:

https://data.unicef.org/topic/child-health/adolescent-health/

Additional comments from user: Providing a percentage will increase public awareness of how frequently this situation occurs.

Forced to have sex with

[edit]

In Teenage pregnancy#Sexual abuse, there's a sentence that reads In 2003, one in five teenage fathers admitted to forcing girls to have sex with them. Isn't that a convulated way of saying those girls were raped or is there some nuance to the phrasing here that I'm missing? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 09:10, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Suicide statistics

[edit]

With this edit I removed content cited to a self-published source, "The Psychological Effects of Teenage Women During Pregnancy" by Sean Powers (September 22, 2002). The assertion that "teenage girls who are pregnant or are mothers are seven times more likely to commit suicide than other teenagers" sounds inflated to me. Powers in the cited article cites Teen Moms: The Pain and the Promise by Evelyn Lerman. I found the fact on page 101. That book was published by Morning Glory Press of Buena Park, California. Morning Glory Press was founded by Jeannie Lindsay to self publish her work on the subject of teenage pregnancy and later the works of others. I would be reluctant to use that source to support putting this back in the article. Leman's book cites page 2 of a 1988 publication Teenage Pregnancy published by the American Association of School Administrators and the New York: Association of Junior Leagues. Apparently the full name is "Teenage pregnancy : developing life options" by Kristen J. Amundson. Here I run into a wall, because this 18 page pamphlet is not available on-line. Until the actual study is found and the exact context of this statistic is known, I see no reason to include it in the article. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 20:24, 8 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Let me get that straight, a medical claim in an American publication from 1988 is used to assert suicide statistics in the 21st century? And we are using this as a fact that applies to the global population? Wow! The reference is useless. Dimadick (talk) 23:03, 8 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Notable People section seems like trivia.

[edit]

Per MOS:TRIVIA this section seems like a an indiscriminate collection of information with little in common beyond being a teenager when becoming a parent or being born to one. It does not really contribute to an understanding of the subject. I propose the whole section be removed. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 23:29, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
