No Contest to All Charges

The issue of whether Campbell pled guilty to drunk driving is subtle but politically significant. He did not plead guilty. Rather, he entered a plea, valid in Hawaii but not British Columbia, of "nolo contendre" or "no contest", which accepts the penalty without admitting guilt. This probably makes sense in terms of the precedent he made for other government officials, and for him personally in a legal sense. But at the time, there was more than a little criticism for not admitting guilt, while apologizing anyway.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottcraig (talk • contribs) 18:45, 23 November 2004 (UTC)Reply

Gordon Campbell → Gordon Campbell (Canadian politician)
Gordon Campbell (disambiguation) → Gordon Campbell
– I question if there is a primary topic. We have the Secretary of State for Scotland, not much less important than prime minister of British Columbia, who some British people might regard as the primary topic. We also have a British vice-admiral, who won the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest award for bravery. Support. There are 11 men listed upon the Gordon Campbell (disambiguation) page, with little indication that the diplomat and politician's renown has dwarfed the combined prominence of the remaining ten men. As for the parenthetical qualifier, perhaps we can use Gordon Campbell → Gordon Campbell (British Columbia politician) since Gordon Peter Campbell was also a Canadian politician. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 22:25, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Aside: I'm not sure why the GOCE was informed of this renaming proposal; the article isn't currently on the Requests page, this discussion isn't about copy-editing the article and the wiki-project doesn't ordinarily involve itself in article-naming disputes. Is there another reason for the notification? Cheers, Baffle☿gab 16:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support: Gordon Campbell (Canadian politician) already redirects here. We should fully move the article to that page rather than creating a new (British Columbia politician) one. Since the other Canadian listed at Gordon Campbell (disambiguation) is identified as Gordon Peter Campbell, I do not see a problem keeping the Canadian politician identifier with the former BC Premier we are discussing.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DJ Cane (talk • contribs) 17:14, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Comment. In addition to my alternative proposal, above, Gordon Campbell → Gordon Campbell (British Columbia politician), consideration may be also given to another alternative, Gordon Campbell → Gordon Muir Campbell, per his entry in The Canadian Encyclopedia and WP:NATURAL. The other Canadian politician was likewise listed by his full name — Gordon Peter Campbell — in the official directory, but had been generally referenced as "Gordon Campbell" during his era, from the 1930s until his death in January 1964. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 22:43, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
