List format inconsistent
[edit]For some entries it has b.2000, for others it has 2000-2025. This make it impossible to actually sort by date of birth. Can we reach an agreement on how we write the birth and death dates? Kiwiisabirdok (talk) 04:31, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- At this point, I changed all the "b." to "born". Now that it isn't in a table, there isn't any sorting for anything, apart from the categories. The previous table was incredibly unwieldy and almost impossible to update. In solidarity - Historyday01 (talk) 13:40, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
Proposal to split table into smaller tables
[edit]The list is getting too long to manage easily. I propose splitting the table into alphabetical groups, so all the A names go in one table, B in another, etc. I am willing to put in the work for this, if there is consensus to proceed. - That is a really good idea. I think it would be better to group it by area of notability, since I count, on the existing list:
- 110+ people with the word "Activist" in the "notable as" column (I would use the word "Advocate" instead, as "Activist" can be a politically-charged word)
- 29 with the word "Actor" in the "notable as" column
- 20+ with the word "Actress" in the "notable as" column
- 25+ with the word "Artist" in the "notable as" column
- And so on. I'd use what is stated in the "noble as" column to organize the entries into categories (like those who are musicians and entertainers). I do think columns like "Birth – or b.–d. – years", "Nationality" or "Pronouns" are not as helpful since not every entry has information for those, and can easily be deleted without any issue. Individuals which need better sourcing before they are added
[edit]In adding people to the page, I found some people who shouldn't be added to the page without more reliable (and stronger) sourcing, which isn't self-published information:
- Maddie Taylor, voice over artist
- Henry Rubin (is there confirmation Rubin is even trans?)
- J. E. Sumerau
- Summer Dylan Quercia
- Xan Phillips
- Deirdre McCloskey
I just want to hold all the entries on this page to the same standard. Also note that Michelle Rojas and D. W. Waterson had been previously on the page, but they are non-binary and I have seen no evidence they are *also* trans as well. In solidarity - Historyday01 (talk) 13:39, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- If this is inappropriate etiquette for Wikipedia, please let me know. I want to recommend that D. W. Waterson and Michelle Rojas be returned to the list, so long as their sources are of an appropriate quality. Unless either of them have stated they don't identify with the label, I would go with the definition on the Transgender page, which includes non-binary under the trans umbrella. - I would say yes to that, but... we do have pages for non-binary folks, like Waterson, Rojas, or Jess McAvoy. All three are already on the List of non-binary people page, and some are on the List of non-binary writers page. I plan to go through the List of non-binary people page, look at the sources, and add in the people who are listed as transgender on that page to this one. - I understand this approach, since the inclusion of all non-binary people (who are by definition under the trans umbrella) to this page would make it harder to navigate. Thanks for elaborating on your plans.
- I suppose including a link to the List of non-binary people (as well as the List of intersex people) at the top of this page would provide some clarity that this list refers to binary trans people. That's how it is for the List of fictional transgender characters, so this inclusion would also help with consistency. Sciuruss (talk) 00:58, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sure. I did add that to the top, basically saying that non-binary people will be included as long as they are also verified as transgender in reliable source as well. I'm very familiar with List of fictional transgender characters and in fact, I created the List of non-binary characters in animation less than a year ago (in early July of last year), as it did not exist at the time, and is a spinoff of List of fictional non-binary characters (which has been around since 2015 in a different form).
