Seconded. As you've made the image yourself, I think putting conditions on its use may disallow its uploading to Wikipedia. I know that we all license our text contributions the same way as a condition of submitting them to the project; the only reason there's such a hubbub with graphics is because it's harder to attribute them. It's a really nice diagram; I'd like to see it GFDL'd. I wasn't sure whether to split Stockport. (unlike say, Wigan, where the case is quite clear that it should be split). Generally I have been splitting articles about districts and towns, unless the district is only slightly larger than the town. I have also been taking into account local identity (as gleaned from webpages), and the way the urban area looks on a map.

If someone who lived in Bramhall was going shopping in Stockport town centre, would they say "I'm going to Stockport?" Would they consider themselves as living in Stockport (as opposed to the borough of Stockport)? If places like Cheadle and Bramhall have no separate identity other than as areas of Stockport, then that's fine, we can keep the article merged. Morwen 11:41, May 6, 2004 (UTC)

I can only presume that you failed to read the "Discussion" section, where I explained the situation. I have now had to explain to a number of humiliated people that the removal of their considered contributions was not due to any inadequacy on their part but solely to your presumptive and astonishingly arrogant decision unilaterally to withdraw their work. In future please have the good grace to check your facts and investigate the situation with a little more thoroughness and a lot more humility.

I just thought to suggest moving [:category] tags from the top to the bottom whilst you were at it — if you felt so inclined. Hi there. As someone who has displayed a fairly rational and objective attitude towards micronation articles in the past I thought you might be interested to note that the rabid deletionist lobby is on the march against them again.

The latest target is New Utopia, which although a poorly written article in its current form concerns a subject that is eminently encyclopaedic, being the latest in a long line of libertarian "new country projects" (and therefore representative of a notable social/historic phenomenon), being the subject of dozens of international press and TV stories, as well as the subject of a widely-known US Securities & Investment Commission investigation for fraud.

You might want to take a look at the VfD and respond accordingly.

For future reference you might also want to note the articles in the Micronations Category, in order to keep an eye on its contents; I’ve been adding a number of well-researched, illustrated, fully referenced articles to this category in recent months, but there are moves afoot thanks to a highly suspect ongoing arbitration of process to have me banned completely from writing anything at all about micronations on the basis that as the founder of one, anything I write is somehow self-promotional and/or controversial. --Gene_poole 22:16, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Please justify "more standard" introduction. I assert that the text you removed is the standard introduction to the game. New players should not even be informed that they will not be told the rules; the first penalty many players get is for asking about the rules.

The complete, correct, spoken introduction given to a new player consists of the words: "The only rule I can tell you is this one." All other information comes by way of example and experience.

Now, my bias is against such cruel games, and I am only too willing to have an article on Mao that discloses all the little nasty tricks played on victims. However, NPOV requires some even-handedness, and I see on the Talk page that some feel no explanation is appropriate. It seems clear to me that the correct WP introduction is therefore the correct spoken introduction. I considered moving the spoiler template to the very top of the page, but even the presence of the spoiler template gives away an important clue, since new players do not even realize they are being taken for a ride, or that any information is secret. The cryptic statement sets the tone for an entire game of paranoid intrigue (indeed, very like life under Communism during times of political campaign).

Is something gained by sanding this down to some universal blandness?

Hi, Dmn, you voted oppose on the requests for rollback privileges consensus poll, suggesting that people who would like rollback should just become admins instead - that being an admin is "no big deal". While I think that in an "ideal" Wikipedia, this would indeed be the case, I believe that over time standards for becoming an administrator have clearly risen. This is apparent by looking at the RFA system throughout Wikipedia's existence - intially, all one had to do to become an admin was just ask nicely, now we have a complicated procedure. A recent proposal on the RFA talk page for requiring at least 30 minimum support votes and a significant number of existing contributions was given some serious consideration. There is frequent talk of "bad admins slipping through the RFA net", and while you may not agree with that philosophy of adminship it is undeniable that the standards have risen.

Because of this, candidates who pass are already very experienced with Wikipedia. While this in itself is no bad thing, it means that for the month or so before they become admins they are not being given the tools an admin has which would help them to improve Wikipedia, by removing vandalism and performing administrative tasks such as moving pages. The qualities which make a good administrator are not determined by length of stay on Wikipedia or number of friends you have, but by personality and character. Time at Wikipedia only gives familiarity with the way things are done here. However, being at Wikipedia for an extra month doesn't grant any special insight into the ability to determine which edits are vandalism and which are not. This is why I believe that we should hand out rollback to contributors who are clearly here to improve Wikipedia but won't pass the RFA procedure because of their percieved lack of familiarity with policy by some Wikipedians. I think that adminship should be no big deal, like you, however I see just two ways to make sure Wikipedians can quickly and efficiently remove vandalism - either by all those who believe adminship should be no big deal involving themselves much more in RFA, or by supporting this proposal and giving out rollback to good contributors who have not yet been here long enough to become admins. We have to remember that our ultimate aim here is to produce an encyclopedia, and we should balance the idealism of "adminship should be no big deal" with the pragmatism of granting rollback to our best non-admin contributors. I see you've added this graph to the Cheadle election page. It seems to me that it's somewhat misleading in that it compares the vote in "whichever constituency happens to be named Cheadle", but draws a continuous line where the boundaries have changed. Thus the Liberal vote in February 1974 appears to drop, when in fact it rose because the strongly Liberal voting areas had all been removed to Hazel Grove. Would it not be better to break the lines at the point where the boundaries changed, and possibly include them in shadow or greyed where (as in 1979) we have the notional figures on the new boundaries? Please move Melodifestivalen 2011 back into the Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as this has been the long standing practice over the past few years and is what consensus among editors supports. Once the contest is over, the pages will be split, but during the period where both are ongoing, it was decided that in order to avoid duplication of efforts (people having to update both pages) one will be used until after the contest. The Sweden page was chosen as the base as its coverage is much broader than the Melodifestivalen page which in terms of the Contest, is only for the song selection. My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
